There are so many incredible moments to cherish during Artfest - it would be impossible to convey the breadth of wonderFULLness, but here are a few highlights.
During the opening night introductions, we had a surprise announcement: new teacher Dave Steele proposed to Teesha and Tracy's daughter Trista - so romantic!!! Tracy knew what was up but Teesha was totally surprised, and cried tears of joy. (Photo credit to Carrie Clayden.)
The always unique Jessie Reno gave a stream of consciouness keynote speech about creativity.
Day 1 of classes I got to meet Stephanie Lee. I had always heard what a wonderful teacher she was, and she did not disappoint.
In Stephanie's class we learned how to sculpt using plaster gauze, using a bowl as a form. I knew I was going to like this class, but I didn't know I was going to LOVE it. I'm already starting to make more forms now that I'm back home.
At the end of class we put our bowls all together for show and tell. Don't you just love all those colorful insides?
Everyone had there own style, from these quiet gentle faces...
to these loud and joyful expressive ones.
The ever-so-creative Francine left some of hers upside down! The one on the left will become a shrine with objects inside. Cool idea!
These are the bowls I made, sitting on a shelf back at the dorm to dry. Did I mention how much I LOVED this class?
The fun doesn't end after class. It goes on long into the night. I borrowed this photo from Carrie Clayden because I didn't have my camera with me on the beach. I went on a walk with my new art doll buddies Sheri DeBow, Christine Benjamin, Dani and Satira. Sheri took a bunch of pics and I can't wait to see them! After our walk we headed over to the bonfire, made s'mores, talked for hours with Junker Jane Catherine Zacchino and her husband Nick, then into the beach hut here for a bit of journaling. In this photo I recognize Krista, Carrie, Adeola, and Michelle Allen.
It was about midnight by the time I got back to my dorm. I was always the last one to sneak into my room over at 202, causing my roommates to wonder if I ever slept. Who can sleep when there's so much creativity to be had?!
